03/12 Agenda

  • 1879-7: Committee on German-language ritual petition by Germania Lodge was granted further time, "to give the Lodge an opportunity for a hearing upon the petition."
  • 1879-7ff; Report of the Committee on Healing.
  • 1879-9: Committee report on the jurisdictional dispute between Republican Lodge, Greenfield and Harmony Lodge, Northfield. Recommendation that certain brethren be "censured or admonished in such manner as the M.W. Grand Master may deem best."
  • 1879-13: Financial Condition Committee report. "A brief statement" of the report and the subsequent comments and recommendations would be prepared for the June Communication.
  • 1879-24: Appropriation of money for the Standing Committee on Charity.
  • 1879-27: Committee to prepare resolutions on the death of R.W. Charles Kimball.

06/11 Agenda

  • 1879-41: The Financial Committee Report made its recommendation for the capitation tax; it was adopted by majority vote (1879-44).
  • 1879-44: A communication was received from the Grand Master of a newly-formed Grand Lodge of Cuba.
  • 1879-45: A memorial was received from brothers whose names did not appear on the charter of Mechanic's Lodge.
    • 1879-66: The petition of brothers claiming to be left off the charter of Mechanic's Lodge were "given leave to withdraw."
  • 1879-45: A form of the Ritual in the German Lodge was recommended by a Committee.
  • 1879-46: Despite a second communication, the Grand Lodge did not find it "at present expedient" to grant recognition to the Grand Lodge of New South Wales.
  • 1879-47: A committee was appointed to investigate the expenses of the Grand Lodge.

09/10 Agenda

  • 1879-61: A further communication was received from the President of the Board of Correspondence of the Grand Lodge of New South Wales; referred to committee.
  • 1879-62: Committee on the Grand Lodge of Cuba recommended that recognition action be deferred.
  • 1879-72: The Grand Master displayed "an excellent photograph of Moses Michael Hays . . . copied from a painting by Stuart."

SPECIAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • 04/01/1879: 1879-29; Montague. Constitution of Mechanic's Lodge and the installation of its officers by the Grand Master.
  • 04/25/1879: 1879-31; Milford. A ceremony to dedicate the new Masonic apartments of Montgomery Lodge. Many local lodges were represented, "the attendance being very large."
  • 06/11/1879: 1879-33; Masonic Temple, Boston. A meeting (preceding the June Quarterly Communication) to discuss the report of the Committee on the Financial Condition of the Grand Lodge. A recommendation was offered for a capitation tax at $1/year for each affiliated Mason for 15 years to retire the debt. (Approved later in the day by vote.)
  • 06/24/1879: 1879-53; Salem. Feast of St. John the Baptist; the centennial of Essex Lodge, Salem. A procession, ceremony, banquet and address by Grand Master Welch.
  • 10/17/1879: 1879-81; New Bedford. Constitution of Noquochoke Lodge, Westport, and installation of officers. An address was given by Grand Master Welch in the form of a charge to the Brethren, not recorded.
  • 12/27/1879: 1879-131; Waltham. Dedication of Masonic Hall for Monitor and Isaac Parker Lodges. Grand Master Welch made an address to the Brethren, not recorded.
