Brother Ault was born on July 18, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late Richard L and Helene Ault. He has one sister, Diane Thurber. Brother Ault received his education in the Providence School System. He graduated from North Providence High School.

After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Pershing Missile Crewman, stationed in Germany.

In 1969 he married his wife, Linda. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2009. During their first year of marriage they lived in German where Richard was stationed. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters; Tonja Marie and Sheri Ann.

After returning home from the military, Richard went into the family business, J and A Enameling, Inc. located in Providence. During this time he went back to school and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Johnson & Wales University. Richard is now the President and sole owner of J and A Enameling, which has been in business for the past 54 years.

Richard’s commitments started at an early age, he was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer Scout. He was the President of the PTO and coached CYO Basketball at St. Francis Church in Warwick. He was President and still belongs to the same bowling league after 35 years. He was also secretary of his golf league and is an avid boater.

Brother Ault’s Masonic career started in 1982 when he partitioned Harmony Lodge No. 9 for membership. He received his EA degree on June 14, 1983, was passed to the degree of Fellow Craft on September 13, 1983 and was raised to the sublime Degree of a Master Mason on October 11, 1983 and signed the by-laws of Harmony Lodge on November 8, 1983. He served his lodge as Worshipful Master in 1994.

During his Masonic career, Richard traveled to Plymouth, England on many occasions to visit Brethren from Lodge Harmony No. 156. This strong fraternal bond, which developed many years ago still continues to this day.

Richard was appointed by Most Worshipful Robert J. Allen as District Deputy Grand Master for the Southern Masonic District in 2001 and served in the Central, Northern, East Bay and Metro Masonic Districts. He was elected to Junior Grand Warden in 2006; Deputy Grand Master in 2007 and in November 2008 was elected to become the 154th Grand Master of this Most Worshipful Grand Lodge for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

Brother Ault is a member of the Gaspee Order #99 of the Swords of Bunker Hill; Harmony Royal Arch Chapter No. 15; Doric Council No. 7; St. John’s Commandery No. 1; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence; the Rhode Island Shrine and is a Road Runner; The Masonic Veteran’s Association of Rhode Island; The International Police Square Club, RI Chapter; and Royal Order of Jesters, Providence Court No. 71.
