NOTES

The history of King Cyrus Chapter records that "In 1790, H. Duplessis, a Frenchman residing in Newburyport, with Jonathan Boardman, Jonathan Gage, Dr. John B. Swett and a few other prominent citizens of the town, formed an association called King Cyrus Chapter of Royal Arch Masons."

  • 02/13/1805: Grand Chapter directed the Grand Secretary to request a loan from the Chapter. (ChI-38)
  • 06/11/1811: Vote to address a disciplinary meeting in the Chapter. (ChI-78) This vote was also taken on 09/10/1811 (ChI-80) and 09/15/1812 (ChI-97).
  • 03/10/1840: Committee appointed to investigate status of Chapter. (ChI-465)
    • 09/09/1840: Chapter reported to be in "a wretched condition, their charter lost, their meetings discontinued, and not enough of Masonic vitality to warrant a hope that it would ever be resuscitated." It was recommended that its charter be revoked. (ChI-472)
    • 09/09/1840: Charter noted as surrendered. (ChI-472)
    • 09/07/1841: Report on surrender. Charter would be held "subject to be returned on petition." (ChI-485)
  • 09/12/1848: Charter restored. An endorsement directed to be affixed to charter. (ChI-573)
  • 12/09/1851: Notification to Chapter to remit dues or risk forfeiture of charter. (ChI-614)
  • 12/13/1853: Grand Secretary directed to contact chapter to request payment of dues. (ChI-641)
    • 03/07/1854: Further time granted. (ChI-645)
  • 06/13/1854: Charter and regalia surrendered.
  • 12/12/1854: Petition for restoration accepted.
