BIOGRAPHY

George Alexander Farron, of Morning Star Lodge No. 13, F. & A. M., of Woonsocket, R. I., was elected and installed the one hundred second Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at the One Hundred and Sixty-sixth Annual Communication held in Providence on Monday, May 20, A. L. 5957, A. D. 1957.

M. W. Brother Farron was born in Woonsocket, R. I., on April 25, 1897, son of Joshua and Tirzah Moss Farron.

He was educated in the public schools of Woonsocket. In his sophomore year he left High School to pursue a course in Bryant and Stratton Business College, now Bryant College of Providence, R. I. He was graduated from the bookkeeping course in 1913 and was studying stenography there when in March, 1914 he left school to enter the employ of the Industrial Trust Company in the Woonsocket Branch.

He remained with the bank for forty-three years until April 30, 1957 when he retired from regular employment. Early in his working years he did some bookkeeping aside from his banking activity.

On October 3, 1925 he married Ruth Mabel Anderson who passed on in 1954. To them was born a daughter, Ada, now for several years living in Detroit, Michigan.

He is a lifelong communicant of Globe Congregational Church. For twenty-eight years he was treasurer of the Sunday School.

He was for eight years Treasurer of Woonsocket Chapter, American Red Cross.

He was made a Mason in Morning Star Lodge No. 13 on May 15, 1919 and was admitted on September 4, 1919. He was elected Worshipful Master on January 24, 1928. Since 1942 he has been a member of the Finance Committee.

He is a honorary member of Hamilton Lodge No. 15, North Scituate.

He holds membership in the Correspondence Circle of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076, of London, England.

He was Excellent High Priest of Union Chapter No. 5. R. A. M., in 1927. He was Thrice Illustrious Master of Woonsocket Council No 4, R. & S. M., in 1926 and 1945, and is now a member of Providence Council No. 1. He was Eminent Commander of Woonsocket Commandery No. 24. K. T., for the terms of 1942 and 1943. With the exception of those two years, he has been the Treasurer since 1923.

He is the Representative of the Grand Lodge F. & A. M. for the State of Georgia, and is the recipient of the Henry Price Medal of Massachusetts.

He is a member of the four bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence; Roger Williams Priory, Knights of the York Cross of Honor; Sword of Bunker Hill: Masonic Veterans Associations of Rhode Island and Vermont; Honorary Admiral of the Bellingham Navy Yard; Honorary Member of Narragansett Bay Chapter, National Sojourners; and was made an Honorary Member at sight of Massasoit Forest No. 112, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, on October 26, 1957.

In 1928, as a Director of the Woonsocket Masonic Building Association, he was the one approached by the agent for a tract of land. After the purchase of the land, formation of the Woonsocket Masonic Temple Corporation, and engaging an architect, he was appointed Chairman of the Plana Committee, then of the Building Oomnuttee and after the completion was, for nineteen years, Chairman of the Board of Managers. He was also for eight years Secretary of the Corporation.

In the Order of the Eastern Star, he was Worthy Patron of Woonsocket Chapter in 1925 and 1938, and in 1941-1942 was Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Rhode Island.

In the Grand Lodge, M. W. Jethro H. Peckham, on September 5, 1950, appointed him Fourth District Deputy Grand Master; and for four years he held a District Deputyship. On May 17. 1954 he was elected R. W. Junior Grand Warden; May 16, 1955 R. W. Senior Grand Warden; May 21, 1956 R. W. Deputy Grand Master; and on May 20, 1957 M. W. Grand Master.
