BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

William Martin was born in DeKalb, Mo., March 7, 1879 and at the age of seven his family moved to Colby, Kansas residing there for nine years and afterwards returning to Missouri and settled in Doniphan, Mo. He received his education in Colby, Ks. and at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Brother Martin began his career as a clerk in a drug store and in due time qualified as a registered pharmacist and opened and operated a drug store in Doniphan. Brother Martin also served as a director of the Federal Land Bank of St Louis.

M. W. Brother Martin's Masonic career began January 27, 1903 when he was initiated into Composite Lodge No 369, Doniphan, Mo. On March 24, 1903 he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. He served his lodge as Master in 1905. He served as DDGM and DDGL from 1905 to 1915. In 1915 Grand Master Jesse appointed him as Grand Pursuivant and he was regularly advanced and elected Grand Master in October 1925.

He was a member of the York Rite bodies and a member of St Christopher Conclave Red Cross of Constantine. He received the degrees of the Scottish Rite in November 1925.

Brother Martin was elected Grand Sentinel for the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star of Missouri and served as Worthy Grand Patron 1928-1929.

Dying in 1962, funeral services were conducted in the Third Baptist Church, St Louis, Mo.
