Grand Master, 1995-1996

BIOGRAPHY

Jim Cobbin was born September 26, 1938 in Springfield, Missouri. He attended public schools in Springfield and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961, where he was a Crew Chief on a B-52 Bomber.

Brother Cobbin worked in the commercial glass business for 28 years and he opened Builder's Glass and Products Inc in 1975.

His Masonic career began with a petition to United Lodge No 5 in Springfield, Missouri in 1963. He was raised to the Degree of Master Mason in June of 1963 and served as Master in 1984. He was a duel member of Daylight Lodge No 678 also in Springfield. He was appointed Senior Grand Marshall by Grand Master Blinn in 1988 and elected Grand Master in 1996.

Brother Cobbin was a member of Vincil Chapter No 110 RAM. Zabud Council R&SM and St John's Commandery KT all of Springfield. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Joplin and was active in degree work in the 9th, 10th and 11th degrees. He had received the KCCH from the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Red Cross of Constantine, the Order of the Eastern Star and Abou Ben Adhem, where he was a member of the Shrine Clown and Degree Team.

Most Worshipful Brother Cobbin died on March 13, 1996 while serving as Grand Master, doing what he loved to do, playing golf.

Funeral Services wre held on Monday, March 18, 1996 in National Heights Baptist Church, Masonic Services were conducted by Past Grand Master Edward Blinn. An announcemnt was made at the beginning of the Masonic Service that a communication had been received from a Masonic Lodge in Japan, stating at the time of the service the Lodge in Japan would observe a "moment of silent prayer". Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
