HISTORY

Created by Dispensation on April 15, 1808, and chartered on June 26, 1809, Union Lodge No. 10, the oldest Masonic Lodge in the city of Pawtucket, has seen its ranks grow while providing leadership in business, industries, and professions. Church ministers, lawyers, mayors for the city, doctors, industrialists, bankers, and white collar workers, and blue collar workers have been its Masters and have imprinted their mark for posterity.

Three daughter lodges have followed Union and adopted names of previous Union Masters: Barney Merry, Jenks, and E. L. Freeman.

Union Lodge today, as it was yesterday, represents a core sample of our society: the big kiln where are melted and purified, and molded our hopes and actions to create a better America. For many years our theme “Union” has not been heard in our halls. Instead, a pledge to America, to its spirit, and a commitment to make it better generate warmth and strength to continue in the future what was initiated in 1808.
