BIOGRAPHY

George Elmer Kettleband of Nestell Lodge No. 37, F. & A. M. of Providence, Rhode Island was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 6, 1913, son of George F. and Esther M. (Gounder) Kettleband, he received his education in the public schools of New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. As a child, he attended the Methodist Church and later in life became a Baptist and a member of the Phillips Memorial Baptist Church in Cranston, Rhode Island.

On December 25. 1936 he married Thelma E. (Boss) Kettleband. They have two children, Robert and Nancy X. (Kettleband Langley. and four grandchildren.

He claims the Aircraft Industry as the initial supplier of his vocation, having received technical training in the United States Army Air Corp, then going on to employment in the Airlines with Boston & Maine Airways and Eastern Airlines. For the twenty-eight and one half years prior to his retirement in August 1970, he was employed by the United States Navy in the Naval Aircraft Overhaul and Repair Complex. During this time, studies pursued in the field of Industrial Management at Navy Seminars, the University of Rhode Island and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute led him into the field of Management. At the time of his retirement. he was Superintendent responsible for Reaction Engine Overhaul and Repair at the Quonset Point Naval Air Rework Facility, Quonset Point. Rhode Island and is a life member of the National Association of Superintendents of Naval Shore Establishments.

He was made a Mason in Nestell Lodge No. 37 in November 1947, and was admitted on March 11. 1948. He was elected Worshipful Master in March 1957 and was appointed 7th District Deputy Grand Master on May 21, 1962 by Most Worshipful Brother Donald F. Culton. He was appointed each year thereafter and has served in each of the seven Masonic Districts in Rhode Island. In succeeding years he has been elected to Junior Grand Warden, Senior Grand Warden, and Deputy Grand Master. He holds honorary membership in Washington Lodge No. 5, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He also holds membership in the four bodies of the A. A. S. R. in the Valley of Providence and the Royal Arch Chapter No. 1. R. A. M. he is a Past Patron of Naomi Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star.
