BIOGRAPHY

Donald Francis Hopkins of St. Andrew's Lodge No. 39, A. F. & A. M. of Riverside, Rhode Island was elected and installed the One Hundred and Thirty-Sixth Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at the 200th Annual Communication held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, Cranston, Rhode Island on May 20, 1991.

Most Worshipful Brother Hopkins was born in Warwick, Rhode Island on April 5, 1929. He moved to East Providence in 1940 and attended the Public School System and graduated from East Providence High School, Class of 1947.

He enlisted in the Armed Forces in October 1946 and was trained as a Glider-paratrooper at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served overseas in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan in the occupational forces until April 1948.

He then entered into the printing field with several companies serving in apprenticeships. In 1956 he started his own business called Globe Printing Company in Providence, Rhode Island. After several moves in East Providence, the last being Pawtucket, Rhode Island where Globe Printing is now operating at 466 Division Street. In 1988 he formed Delta Charts, Inc. at the same address.

On May 1,1991, Brother Hopkins retired from business to devote full time to the Office of Grand Master.

Brother Hopkins' Masonic Career began in 1951 when he received a clear ballot at St. Andrews Lodge No. 39, Riverside, R.I. He advanced to Master Mason in November 1951 and was appointed into line by Worshipful Royce W. Whittemore and became Master of St. Andrews on November 30, 1958.

He is a member of Providence Royal Arch Chapter, Providence Council No. 1, Calvary Commandery, Knights Templar; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence; Palestine Temple AAONMS of Cranston, Rhode Island and currently serving as 1st Ceremonial Master on the Divan; Marhaba Shrine Club of Rhode Island; Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 71 Providence (Director in 1984); Honorary Member of Roger Williams Lodge No. 32, Centredale; Warwick Lodge No. 16, East Greenwich; and an affiliated member of Lafayette Lodge No. 47, Cumberland; Sword of Bunker Hill - Gaspee Order No. 99 and the Masonic Veterans Association of R.I., the Knights of Mecca and Directors of Palestine Shrine.

Brother Hopkins also belongs to the Fortnight Dining Club, the Plantations Club of Rhode Island and the Wannamoisett Country Club.

He is married to the former Jessie Louise Hunt of East Providence and they have five children; Ronald Alfred, Deborah Louise Carlson, Robert Edward, Roger Allen and Raymond John. He has five grandchildren - Jolene and Ian Hopkins, Thomas James, Shelby Louise and Kelly Leigh Carlson.
