BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

William Alfred Clark was born at Clarksburg,Mo., September 11, 1865. He worked the farm in the summer and attended school in the winter until twenty-one years of age. While he was yet a boy a college was established at Clarksburg, called Clarksburg College. He attended school there, graduating in 1888. He taught in a county school, then went to Waynesburg Pa., where he took an examination for admisison to the senior class of Waynesburg College, graduating in 1889 as salutatorian of his class. Returning to Missouri he was the principle of the schools in Tipton. Having decided to take up the profession of medicine he entered Washington University Medical College, St Louis, Mo, graduating in 1897. He located in Jefferson City and continued in the practice of medicine until the time of his death.

In 1899 he was married to Miss Clara T. Neff of Jefferson City. They were the parents of two children Helen and Mary Louise.

He was initiated in Tipton Lodge No 56, February 15, 1890, passed March 1 and raised April 15 of that year. On hsi removal to Jefferson City he affiliated with Jefferson Lodge No 43, February 7, 1898 and served as Master in 1901 and 1902. He was named Grand Junior Marshal in 1908 and elected Grand Master in 1917.

He was a member of the York and Scottish Rite as well as of the Red Cross of Constantine.

He rendered exceptional service to the Masonic Home of Missouri and was actively identified with the medical profession of the state, having been elected President of the Missouri State Medical Association. In 1917 Governor Gardner appointed him a member of the State Board of Health and he served as President for several years.

His death occurred April 11, 1934 and his funeral was one of the largest held in Jefferson City. After a short religious service at his house, Masonic services were conducted in Riverview Cemetery.
