BIOGRAPHY

Most Worshipful Brother Wilson Brown was elected Grand Master at the Annual Communication in June, 1853, representing St. Mark's Lodge No. 93, at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He had never appeared in the Grand Lodge at any previous session, or did he ever again enter that body; at least no records exist in connection with the Grand Lodge wherein any mention is made regarding him. He was succeeded in 1854 by Brother L. S. Cornwell.
Brother Brown was born in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, August 27, 1804. He received his medical education in and graduated from the Maryland Medical Institute at Baltimore, coming to Missouri in the twenties, settling at Cape Girardeau, where he married in 1830. Soon after he removed to and resided near Sikeston. In 1838 he again moved, locating on a farm in Scott County. Seven years later, in 1845, he became a resident again of Cape Girardeau, where he remained until the time of his death, August 27, 1855, his fifty-first birthday.
During his residence in Scott County he was twice elected State Senator, and twice State Auditor, 1849 to 1853. He was elected Lieutenant,Governor in 1853 and died during term he was serving as such. Brother Brown was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge in Cape Girardeau. He was buried in the family cemetery on the "Brown farm" in Scott County, where an imposing monument stands that was erected by the State.
