BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

Thad Landon was born on a farm fifteen miles east of Atchison, Kansas, August 18, 1876. He was four years of age when his family mover to Washington County, Ks, where they remained until he was fifteen years of age. He was educated in the county schools and received the equivalent of a high school education in a Quaker academy at Washington, Kansas. For a time he taught school, using his spare time to study law and stenography, and continued this study in a lawyer's office and was admitted to the bar in Washington County, Ks., in 1898. In 1901 he moved to Topeka Ks. to become the private secretary of Judge Cunningham of the Supreme Court of Kansas. In 1903 he moved to Kansas City, Mo., and continued to practice law.

April 11, 1911, he was appointed assistant United States District Attorney for the Western District of Missouri serving until January 1914. He was elected Judge of the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Mo., in the fall of 1920 and served a six year term. He became vice-president and trust officer of the New England Bank and Trust Company, Kansas City, serving two years. He then returned to private practice until June 1, 1929 when he became a member of the firm of Johnson, Lucas, Landon and Graves.

December 24, 1902, he was married to Miss Blanche Metz they were the parents of four children, Mark K., Thad G., John M., and Arthur B.

For many years he headed the local committee which controlled the Crippled Children's Home of the Shrine. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Masonic Home.

Brother Landon entered Freemasonry through Temple Lodge No 299, Kansas City, being raised June 19, 1909. He served the Lodge as Master in 1915 and 1922 and named Grand Pursuivant the same year eventually being elected Grand Master in 1932.

He was a member of the York Rite and the Scottish Rite and had received the 33rd degree from the Scottish Rite October 26, 1931. He was a member of Ararat Shrine and Potentate in 1922. He was also a member of Mary Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine.

His death occurred January 11, 1944, after several years of ill health and since 1941 had lived in retirement at his country home near Lee's Summit, Mo. Funeral services were conducted at a funeral chapel, January 14, 1947. Interment was in Mt Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City.
