BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research (Note: this biography was written prior to Bro. Jayne's death; he died in 1982 and is buried in Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, Missouri.

Harold M Jayne was born September 1, 1886 in Monroe City, Missouri, the son of Augustus and Penelope Jayne, His father was a Circuit Judge in Northeastern Missouri. He attended High School in Monroe City, graduating in 1914. He started his working career in the local post office as a clerk and carrier. He left the Post Office and moved to Hannibal where he accepted employment with the Hannibal Construction Company and eventually worked for the Burlington Railroad. He studied law in the evenings and in 1925 he was admitted to the Bar and opened practice in Memphis, Missouri.

He practiced the law profession for fifteen years but due to the death of the cashier and illness of his uncle who were connected with the Bank of Scotland Company he entered the banking profession. He remained in that position until in 1945 he became Vice-President of the Trenton National Bank.

He was a member of Monroe Lodge No 64 being raised to the degree of Master Mason, June 30, 1920 and served as Master in 1924 and 1925. He affiliated with Memphis Lodge No 16, September 26, 1927 and was an Honorary Member of Trenton Lodge No 111.

He served as DDGM of the 1st Masonic District from 1928-1945, appointed Grand Junior Steward in 1950 and elected Grand Master in 1956.

He was a charter member of the Missouri Lodge of Research serving as Junior Steward in 1950 and Master in 1953. He was a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite and Moila Shrine.

Brother Jayne belongs to Kilwinning Council, No 17, Allied Masonic Degrees, Knights York Cross of Honor, Red Cross of Constantine, Order of the Silver Trowel and Charter member, Missouri Order of High Priesthood serving as President in 1949.
