BIOGRAPHY

Frank Briggs was born in the small town of Armstrong, Missouri on February 25, 1894. He attended high school in Fayette and in 1911, he became a student at Central Methodist College. He had an interest in Journalism and elected Business Manager of the Central College Collegian. He was a member of the Phi Alpha Literary Society. He played basketball for three seasons and football one fall, At the end of this third year he left Central College and matriculated at the University of Missouri, where in 1915 he received his Bachelor in Journalism.

After graduation Frank became the publisher of the Fayette Democrat Leader and a year later moved to Moberly and served as the Night Editor of the Moberly Index. On January 1, 1917 Frank bought the Trenton Times and became City Editor. Over a period of time Brother Briggs was associated with a number of papers in the midwest.

His political life reached far beyond his immediate neighborhood. He was chosed State Senator in 1932, 1936, 1940 and 1944. He resigned the State Senate early in January of 1945 and on the 19th of that month, he was appointed to the United States Senate to complete the term left vacant by Senator Harry. S Truman.

On July 1, 1947, Governor Phil Donnelly apponted Frank as a member of the Missouri Conservation Commission. He served two six-year terms.

Brother Briggs' Masonic career began in Fayette Lodge No 47 where he was raised August 17, 1915, he affiliated with Trenton Lodge No 111 on July 19, 1917 and affiliated with Censer Lodge No 172 in 1924 where he served as Master in 1927. He was elected Grand Master in September 1957. He had previously served as Grand High Priest in 1937.

Most Worshipful Brother Lewis C. Wes Cook conducted the Masonic Funeral Service of Grand Master Briggs on Friday, September 25, 1992.
