BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

Anthony Ittner was born at Berlin Heights, Erie County, Ohio, November 23, 1872. His father came to St Louis with his son in 1876 and engaged in the contracting business. Ittner received a public school education in St Louis and attended Washington University in 1895 with a the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Subsequently he attended Washington University Law School and won his LL.B. degree in 1897. In the same year he entered practice in St Louis. In 1898, when the call came for military service following the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, he enlisted in Company C of the First Missouri Volunteer Infantry and served as a sergeant. When peace was restored he returned to St Louis and resumed his law work.

In 1911, Brother Ittner was elected to the House of Delegates of St Louis and served from April 1911 to April 1913. In 1918 he served on the Board of Equalization for the City and in December of that year was appointed Judge of City Court No. 1. In 1922 he was elected Judge of the Circuit Court of the Eight Judicial District.

Brother Ittner first saw Masonic light in St Louis Missouri Lodge No 1, May 1900 and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason September 26, 1900. He served as Master in 1908 and Secretary from 1909 to 1920. He served as DDGL of the thirty-third District in 1911 and DDGM in 1912. He was appointed Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge in 1918 and was elected Grand Master in 1927.

Perhaps the most noteworthy accomplishment of Grand Master Ittner's administration was the raising of $25,000.00 for the special fund of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial.

Brother Ittner was a founder and charter member of Missouri Beta Chapter of the college fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In 1934 he was appointed Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Missouri and in the same year was selected a Director of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial.

At the time of the founding of the Missouri Lodge of Research he was elected Junior Warden and later served as Master of the Lodge. He is a Past Grand Monarch of the Supreme Council of the Grotto.

On Monday, July 15, 1957 Grand Master Ittner was away. Brother Ittner had been infirm for several years, his last year spent in a rest home near Festus, Missouri.

Funeral services were conducted for the Grand Lodge by Most Worshipful Brother James M. Bradford, PGM, at the Kron Chapel in St Louis, Tuesday, July 18, 1957 after which our Brother was laid to rest in Valhalla Chapel of Memories.
