Kenneth William Sprague Jr. of Malden was installed the Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts in a ceremony at the fraternity’s Boston headquarters on Thursday, December 27, 2012. The Senior Grand Warden is the second highest ranking elected Mason in the state. He will serve for one year.

Sprague was elected at the Grand Lodge Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 12th. As Senior Grand Warden, he will assist Richard J. Stewart, Grand Master and the presiding officer in the state, for the coming year. He also serves as Grand Master Pro Tempore in the absence of the Grand Master and the Deputy Grand Master. Stewart of Shrewsbury, MA was installed for the third of his three one-year terms as the 87th Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts during the same ceremony.

Raised in Malden, Sprague graduated from North Reading High School. Following high school he attended Northwood University, Midland, MI. He owns Ken Sprague Realty Group, Malden. Sprague and his wife, Kathy, have two adult sons.

In 1982 Brother Sprague began his Masonic career when he joined Converse Lodge in Malden. He served as the Worshipful Master, or presiding officer, in 1987 and 1989. Since 2006 he has been the Secretary of Converse Lodge. He is also a member of Samuel Crocker Lawrence Lodge, Medford, and an honorary member of The Independence Lodge, Malden. In 2010 and 2011 R.W. Brother Sprague was the District Deputy Grand Master of the Fourth Masonic District.

Sprague received the Joseph Warren Medal for Distinguished Service in 2009. Named for the Patriot killed during the Battle of Bunker Hill, Warren was the presiding Grand Master at the time of his death. The medal recognizes exceptional service at the lodge level. It is conferred by the Grand Master on the recommendation of the Lodge Master.

In 2012 Sprague joined the Grand Lodge Board of Directors. The same year he was also appointed to the Masonic Health System's Overlook Health Center and Community Board of Directors. In 2007, he became a member of the Grand Lodge's Membership Development Committee, serving as Chairman since 2010.

Active in several Masonic organizations, Sprague is a 32° Mason in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite – Valley of Boston. In 2011 he was awarded the Scottish Rite Medal for Masonic Service. He belongs to the York Rite’s Royal Arch Chapter of the Tabernacle; Orient Council Royal and Select Master Masons; and, Beauseant-Palestine Commandery #10, all of Malden. He is also an Aleppo Shriner, Wilmington.

He is 2008 graduate of the Masonic Leadership Institute, M.W. Fred K. Bauer Class.

Bro. Sprague was installed on December 27, 2012. He had been elected to the position of senior grand warden at the December quarterly communication.

The senior grand warden ranks as the second highest elected Mason in the state. He will serve for one year.

Brother Sprague began his Masonic career when he joined Converse Lodge in Malden in 1982. He served as master in 1987 and 1989; he has been the secretary of Converse Lodge since 2006. He is also a member of Samuel Crocker Lawrence Lodge and an honorary member of The Independence Lodge.

The newly elected grand warden began his service to Grand Lodge in 2007 when he joined the membership development committee; he has served as chairman since 2010. Rt. Wor. Bro. Sprague was the district deputy grand master of the 4th Masonic District for 2010–2011. Bro. Sprague joined the Grand Lodge board of directors in 2012 and in that same year he was appointed to the Overlook Health Community’s board of directors.

He is a 2008 graduate of the Masonic Leadership Institute’s M. W. Fred K. Bauer Class. He has served as lecturer, instructor, or presenter for several programs including LOI, Master’s Path, and Beyond the Third Degree. Bro. Sprague received the Joseph Warren Medal for distinguished service in 2009.

Bro. Sprague was awarded the Scottish Rite’s Masonic service medal in 2011. He belongs to the York Rite and is also an Aleppo Shriner.

Rt. Wor. Kenneth Sprague was raised in Malden and attended Northwood University. He owns Ken Sprague Realty Group in Malden; he and his wife, Kathy, have two adult sons.
