"Right Worshipful Frederick Wilson Hale, son of Frederick William Hale and Ella Crowell (Taylor) Hale, was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on February 18, 1889, and died in Lexington, Massachusetts, on April 11, 1970. Brother Hale received his schooling at the Warren Grammar School, Charlestown, the Thomas N. Hart School, South Boston and the Charlestown High School from which he graduated in June 1906. He immediately found employment with Catlin & Company, a firm of cotton commission merchants in Boston.

"Eight months later he changed his employment to Bristol Patent Leather Company, of the same city. He continued with that concern for twenty-nine years, the last eight of which he served as Manager of the Boston end of the business. In January, 1936 Brother Hale became City Auditor of the City of Somerville, a position which he filled for ten years. During this period he also acted as an Insurance Broker, and served as Trustee for several estates. He was Corporator, Trustee and Vice-President of Somerville Savings Bank. Brother Hale was a long-time member of College Avenue Methodist Church, to which he gave his services on the Auditing Committee for twenty years. In 1957 he transferred his membership to Lexington Methodist Church when he changed his residence to that Town.

"Brother Hale was made a Mason in King Solomon's Lodge, Somerville, on April 21, 1916; Passed, May 26 and Raised, June 23 of the same year. He became Worshipful Master of that Lodge in 1932, serving two terms. He was appointed Grand Pursuivant for 1935, and District Deputy Grand Master of the Somerville Sixth Masonic District for 1937 and i939. He was elected Senior Grand Warden for the year 1942, during which he received the Henry Price Medal. He was Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Venezuela from 1941 to 1953, and of the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick from 1951 to 1970, inclusive. He served on the Education Committee of the Grand Lodge from 1938 to 1954, and received the Veteran's Medal in 1966.

"From 1945 through 1968 Brother Hale was employed as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. Here his considerable financial ability permitted him to make a substantial and widely recognized contribution. Brother Hale enjoyed membership in many other Masonic Bodies. ln l92l he was exalted in Somerville Royal Arch Chapter, greeted in Orient Council, R. & S. M., of Somerville, and knighted in Coeur de Leon Commandery, No. 3d K. T. of Medford. In the Scottish Rite he received the degrees in

"The four bodies of the Valley of Boston in 1940. He was created an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, thirty-third degree in 1954. He was also a member of Bay State Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, and of Aleppo Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.

"On October 31, 1917, he married Leona M. Trefry who survives him, as do his two sons, Robert Frederick and Norman Bradford Hale. Brother Hale often recalled his pleasure at having been privileged to raise both sons in his own Lodge in 1947.

"Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, April 13, 1970, at Douglass Funeral Home in Lexington with many friends and Masonic leaders present to do him honor. Interment was at Furitan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, Massachusetts."

Ill. Frederick Wilson Hale, 33°, was born in Somerville, Massa­chusetts, on February 18, 1889, and died in Lexington, Massachu­setts on April 11, 1970. He was employed by the Bristol Patent Leather Co. for twenty-nine years, becoming Manager for eight years. In 1936 he became Auditor for the City of Somerville serving for ten years.

From 1945 to 1968 he served as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts and received the Henry Price Medal. His Masonry started in 1916 in King Solomon's Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master in 1932 and 1933. He was a member of all York Rite Bodies and in Scottish Rite his membership was in the Valley of Boston. He was created a Sove­reign Grand Inspector General, 33°, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council in 1954.
