BIOGRAPHY

Albert Pradervand Ruerat, of Doric Lodge, No. 38, Auburn, R. I., was elected and installed the ninety-sixth Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, at the One Hundred and Sixtieth Annual Communication held in Providence on Monday, May 21, A. L. 5951, A. D. 1951.

M. W. Brother Ruerat was born in East Providence, Rhode Island, on May 21, 1904, the youngest son of Jules Ruerat and Margaret (Delapierre) Ruerat. Then- were five children in the family, four boys and one girl.

He obtained his early education in the public schools of East Providence. He attended Rogers High School in Newport, also Hope High School in Providence. After graduating from Hope High School, he attended Bryant College and Northeastern University, Iwth of Providence.

Following his graduation from Northeastern University in 1921, he was employed for fifteen years by the Palmer Spring Company, of Providence.

In 1938 he went into business for himself. He is owner of H. & R. Automotive Service, of Providence; Treasurer and half owner of Palmer Spring Company, Manchester, N. H.; President of Truck Trailer Equipment Company, Providence; half owner of Kendall & Ruerat Realty Company, Manchester, N. H.

On October 22, 1925 be was married to Edna Elizabeth Johnson, of
 Providence.

Brother Ruerat's father was Professor of French and taught at the Mary'G. Wheeler School, of Providence. Both his mother and father did private tutoring. They were both born in Switzerland.

Brother Ruerat is a member of the Asbury Methodist Church, of Warwick.

He served as Councilman for the City of Warwick from June, 1933 to January, 1937. He served as Mayor of the City of Warwick from January, 1937 to January, 1949. In 1948 he ran for the office of Governor of the State of Rhode Island on the Republican ticket, but was defeated.

He is at present President of the Board of Trustees of the Kent County Memorial Hospital. He is past Secretary of the Warwick Lions Club, past Vice-President of The Rhode Island Council of Cluirches, past District Leader Southern New England Methodist Conference, past Lay Leader Asbury Methodist Church.

M. W. Brother Ruerat's Masonic record began on January 19, 1927 when he was initiated in Doric l,odge. No. 38, of Auburn, and on May 21, 1927 he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason, He was elected Worshipful Master of his lodge on December 19, 1938.

He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master on May 19, 1941 and assigned to the Seventh District and served seven years in the seven Masonic Districts, and was elected R. W. Junior Grand Warden on May 16. 1949, R. W. Deputy Grand Master on May 15, 1950.

He holds membership in the four bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence, and is at present the Senior Warden of the Rose Croix Chapter.

In September, 1948 he was created a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33°, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council. Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, at Boston, Massachusetts.

In Christian Knighthood, he is a member of St. Johns Commandery, No. 1, K. T.

He is a member of Scituate Chapter. No. 8, R. A. M. and also a member of Palestine Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S.; Moslem Grotto; Lambskin Club; charter member of Gaspee Grange, P. of H. No. 6; and Pomona Grange. He was made a Tall Cedar at sight in Massasoit Forest, No. 112, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, on October 20, 1951.

During his administration as Grand Master, he organized several Masonic projects among which were the Grand Ixxlgc Masonic Youth Foundation and the annual statewide Masonic Sunday service.

Brother Ruerat, in his visitations to the subordinate lodges of this jurisdiction, as well as to the neighboring Grand Jurisdictions, by his genial and brotherly interest, made many fine friends for the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island.

He retires from the office of M. W. Grand Master with the love and esteem of all with whom he came in contuct.
