BIOGRAPHY

Alfred Sheffield Reynolds of Nathanael Greene Lodge No. 45 F. & A. M. of Warwick was elected and installed the One Hundred and Twenty-Third Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and providence Plantations at the One Hundred and Eighty-Seventh Annual Communication held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, Mansion, Rhode Island on May 15, 1978.

Most Worshipful Brother Reynolds was born in East Providence, Rhode Island on July 7, 1927 the son of Alfred and Laura (Jackson) Reynolds.

He was educated in the East Providence Public Schools and graduated from East Providence High in 1944. He honorably served with the United States Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Brown University with the Class of 1948 and also graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University in 1967. He is a member and Past President of the Brown Club of Rhode Island and a member and Past President of the Associated Alumni of Brown University. He is presently serving as a Trustee of Brown University.

The Most Worshipful has been associated with the Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank since 1950 and is presently a Vice President in the Corporate Banking Division in charge of the Secured Lending Area, which includes Commercial Finance and Leasing. He served in several of the bank's departments before being assigned to the Credit Department in 1956, elected a Loan Officer in 1961, promoted to an Assistant Vice President in 1967 and a Vice President in 1969.

On October 12, 1951 he married Alice E. Paul. They live in Warwick and have two children: Sheffield David who is married and lives in Warwick with his wife, Rebecca Sprague. His daughter, Sue Elizabeth, lives at home and is attending the University of Rhode Island (Class of 78).

Most Worshipful Brother Reynolds has been a life-long Methodist and presently is a member of the Hillsgrove Unit Methodist Church in Warwick. He has served in numerous capacities at the local church level. He is presently a Trus and Treasurer of the Southern New England Conference of 1 United Methodist Church. He was also Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Conference for a number of years. Recently he was Chairman of the Fund Drive for the Methodist Home in East Providence.

Most Worshipful Brother Reynolds' Masonic Record began on February 8, 1955 when he was initiated an E. A. He wa raised in Nathanael Greene Lodge No. 45, Warwick, Rhode Island on May 5, 1955. He was elected its Worshipful Mas in October of 1961. He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master for the Seventh Masonic District in May, 1969 by Most Worshipful Albert W. Abramson. He was appointed similar positions in the other districts in the following years. May 19, 1975 he was elected and installed as Right Worshipful Junior Grand Warden; Right Worshipful Senior Grand Warden on May 17, 1976 and Deputy Grand Master on May 16, 1977.

He holds membership in the four bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence and is a Past Sovereign Prince of the Rhode Island Council Princes of Jerusalem.

He is a Noble of Palestine Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. and a member of the Knights of Mecca, a unit of Palestine Temple. He is a member and Past Patron of Sincerity Chapter No. 24 of Warwick and a member of the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Rhode Island. He has served many years on the Advisory Boards of Warwick Assembly Order of Rainbow and Narragansett Chapter Order of DeMolay. He is a member of Landmark Chapter, Narragansett Council, Calvary Commandery. He is active in the Sword of Bunker Hill, Nathanael Greene Fraternal Association and the Lambskin Club of Warwick. In various capacities he has served the Board of Managers of Grand Lodge Charities. He is a member of the Masonic Veterans Association. He is an honorary member of Warwick Lodge No. 16 of West Warwick, and Rhodes Lodge No. 44 of Warwick.

The Most Worshipful has also served various business associations such as: a member of Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, a member, director and Past President of the Rhode Island Association of Credit Management, Inc., Past Chairman of Small Business Administration's (R. I. Advisory Council) and various leadership roles in the South Eastern New England United Way.
