BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

William Allen Hall was born in Nottingham, England May 9, 1848. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Worcester, Mass., as a boy he attended public school until the age of fourteen. Call for troops having been made by President Lincoln he entered the service of the United States Army and remained in that service until discharged at the conclusion of the war. While only eighteen years of age, he was a non-commissioned officer. In 1868, having spent three years as a printer, he joined his brother in the manufacture of surgical elastic goods, under the name of Wm. A. Hall Manufacturing Company.

He received his Masonic Degrees in Mt. Moriah Lodge No 40, St Louis being raised June 7, 1890 and serving as Master in 1894 and 1895. His two sons, Edward Lewis and Fred J, were both members of Mt. Moriah Lodge. He was appointed DDGL of the 33rd District in 1895 and in 1901 was appointed DDGM. In Grand Lodge he was appointed Grand Sword Bearer in 1903 and was regularly advanced and elected Grand Master in 1909. On the death of Grand Treasurer A. C. Stewart, he was appointed Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge and served from 1916-1924.

He was both a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, the Scottish Rite, 33rd degree, Moolah Shrine and Alhambra Grotto.

His death was sudden and occurred November 7, 1924 while he and Grand Secretary Frank R. Jesse were enroute to the depository of the Grand Lodge in St. Louis. Funeral services were conducted by the Grand Lodge November 10 from the Scottish Rite Temple with Masonic services by Grand Secretary Jesse. Interment was in Valhalla Cemetery, St Louis.
