BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research (Note that this biography may have been written prior to Bro. Rumer's death; he died in 1979 is buried in St. Marcus Cemetery in Affton, Missouri):

Richard O, Rumer was born in a small farm two and a half miles out of Mascoutah, St Clair County, Illinois on September 20, 1896, the son of Otto and Lydia Rumer. Richard attended a one-room school for seven years and then Mascoutah High School for three years following a year at Belleville Commercial College. He moved to St. Louis in 1913 and while employed he took night school classes to study law and graduated with a LL.B. degree from the Benton College of Law in 1919. After the World War he law practice with an established firm and in 1924 opened his own law office. In December of 1929, our Brother became one of the counsels for the International Shoe Company and in 1950 was elected a Director and General Counsel.

Brother Rumer was a member of Tower Grove Lodge No 631 being initiated January 24, 1918, passed February 14th and raised March 21st. He belonged to Oriental Chapter No 78, RAM, St Aldemar Commandery No 18, KT, St Louis Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine and a Past Sovereign, Moolah Shine and Tower Grove Chapter NO 445 OES.

He served as DDGL of the 33rd Masonic District in 1928 and DDGM of the same District in 1929. He was appointed Grand Marshal in 1943 and elected Grand Master in 1952. He was a member of the Missouri Lodge of Research and was Master in 1963.
