BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

Joseph Shelby McIntyre was a Missourian, born in Audrian County, near the City of Mexico, April 4, 1871, in the house that his father had been born in. His father imbued with sympathy for the southern cause duing the Civil War and rendered conspicious service ot the Conderate Army.

As a young man he labored on the farm and attended local schools. Having completed his school work, he bagan teaching in the district schools and was thereby enabled to complete hsi courses in the academic and law departments at the University of Missouri graduating from law school 1899. He returned to Audrain County and began the practice of law. He moved to St Louis in 1900 uniting with the firm of Wilfrey, Williams, McIntryre, Hensley and Hardin.

He was raised a Master Mason in Mexico Lodge no 544, January 12, 1900. He place his dimit in Mexico Lodge when he moved to St Louis and affiliated with Tuscan Lodge No 366 and became Master in 1907. It was during this period that the splendid Tuscan Temple, on Kingshighway, was erected, and because of this fact he was induced to retain the office as Master in 1908. He served for two years as DDGM and in 1914 Grand Master Boor appointed him Grand Pursuivant. He was elected Grand Master in October 1923.

He was exalted in St Louis Chapter No 8 Royal Arch Masons April 2, 1895, passed the circle in Hiram Council No 1 Royal and Select Masters, February 2, 1921 and received the Orders of Knigthood in Ascalon Commandery No 16, Knights Tempalr December 8, 1922

He recieved the degree of the Scottish Rite, 4-32 in St Louis in 1904 and in 1907 he was the receipent of the K.C.C. H. and in October 1921 was crowned 33rd degree Inspector General. During the absence of the Soverign Grand Inspector-General of Missouri from the county, he served as Deputy of the Supreme Council from March to September 1923, and following the death of Judge Cochrane was made an active member for Missouri, a position he held until his death.

He was a member of Moolah Shirne and a member of St Louis Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine

His year as Grand Master was a busy one. He attended the conference of Grand Masters in Washington D.C., the Washington Memorial cornerstone laying, introduced Flay Day observations and held a specific communication of the Grand Lodge for the recection of Sir Alfred Robbins.

For many years he had been in ill health and his death occurred during his sleep June 17, 1936. Funeral services were held at the Scottihs Rite Cathedral on June 19, at 9:00 o'clock a.m.; there were no Masonic Services, the family requesting Rose Croix service. Interment was in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St Louis. Mo.
