BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

Juilius Caesar Garrell was born in the City of St Louis, February 1, 1862. Due to the death of his father, opportunity for acquiring an education was somewhat limited. At the age of eleven he found it necessary to go to work to support his family instead of acquiring an education. At the age of nineteen he entered the business of investigating titles, to which, he devoted his life work, becoming president of the St Louis Title Company. At the time he was Grand Master he was a resident of Webster Groves.

On March 22, 1900, me married Miss Hattie Grimm and they were the parents of three children, Harriet W., Julius C. Jr, and Caroline.

He became a Freemason, April 11, 1898 in Occidental Lodge No 163, St Louis, was passed April 25 and raised May 9 of that year. He was a member of the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, the Alhambra Grotto and the Shrine.

He first appeared at Grand Lodge in Kansas City in 1902 being the Junior Warden of Occidental Lodge No 163. In 1904 he was appointed DDGL of the 33rd District and in 1907, 1908 and 1909 he became DDGM. In 1910 he was appointed Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge and elected Grand Master in 1919.

For four years he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Masonic Home and it was he who inaugurated the Masonic initiation fund.

His death occurred in Santa Monica, Calif, October 15, 1940 and his remains were laid to rest with full Masonic honors In Woodlawn Cemetery in that city, October 18, 1940.
