BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

George William Walker was born on a farm near Jonesboro, IL, January 26, 1876, the third of eleven children. He youth was spent on the farm and in country schools. After five years of teaching, in 1900 he entered medical school at Louisville, Ky, but in September of 1901 came to St Louis entering the medical department of Washington University, graduating in 1903. He began his practice of medicine in his home town of Jonesboro, IL but remained for only two years before removing to Cape Girardeau, Mo. His ability and skill as a surgeon was recognized in October 1934 when he was admitted to membership and created a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Brother Walker was initiated in Jonesboro Lodge No. 111, Jonesboro, IL., August 23, 1904, passed August 26, 1904 and raised August 30, 1904, he dimitted to affiliate with St Marks Lodge No 93 at Cape Girardeau, Mo., March 5, 1906 and served as Master in 1909. He was appointed DDGM in 1909, 1901 and 1919-1925. In September 1925 he was appointed Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge and was elected Grand Master, September 30, 1936. He was a member of the Masonic Home Board at the time of his death.

Dr, Walker was a member of the York Rite bodies, St. Louis Conclave No. 42, Red Cross of Constantine, the Scottish Rite where he was created KCCH in 1943. He was a member of the Eastern Star and Moolah Shrine and the White Shrine

His death occurred at his home in Cape Girardeau, Mo., November 13, 1946 after a long illness. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, Mo. Masonic services being conducted by officers of the Grand Lodge of Missouri.
