BIOGRAPHY

Frank Barnhill was born on a farm two miles west of Miami, Saline County, Mo., December 3, 1879. He resided in that county all his life spending most of his life in the County seat, Marshall, Mo. Following a good high school education he accepted a position with an insurance and loan office in Marshall. The Wood and Hudson Bank offered him a clerkship on condition that he would learn shorthand, This Clint did in Kansas City and on December 1, 1899 he began his life career with the Wood and Huston Bank. The assets of the bank in 1929 was one and one half million.

His Masonic career began early in life, He was initiated in Trilumina Lodge No 205, Marshall, Mo., January 13, 1903, passed February 5, 1903 and raised March 5, 1903 He completed the York Rite in the same year. He served his Lodge as Master in 1909, his chapter as High Priest in 1910 and his commandery as Commander in 1911.

He was appointed Grand Pursuivant in 1923 by Grand Master Bert Lee and was regularly advanced to Grand Master in 1933.

The Masonic Fraternity of Missouri counts itself most fortunate to have had as its leader during the trying times of 1933-34 a man of the caliber and capacity of our Past Grand Master.

Brother Barnhill was a charter member of the Missouri Lodge of Research, a member of the Missouri State Historical Society, the Missouri Archaeological Society, the Saline County Farm Bureau and the Order of Kentucky Colonels. He served as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Commandery of Missouri beginning in 1913. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and named K.C.C. H. in 1935.

On March 23, 1963, Grand Master Barnhill passed to his great reward serving sixty years as a Master Mason. Brother Barnhill was laid to rest at Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall, Missouri beside his wife who preceded him in death by only a few months.


Missouri Grand Masters
