BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

For most Grand Masters, the year as Deputy Grand Master is a year of apprenticeship, making plans for the new Masonic year and being President of the Masonic Home Board of Directors. For the (then) Right Worshipful Brother Donald E. Scott, it turned out to be a year of double duty. With Most Worshipful Brother James H. Cobbin passing away suddenly, after scarce a half-year of service as Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother Scott fulfilled the unexpired year as Acting Grand Master but also carried out the duties as Deputy Grand Master.

At the Grand Lodge Communication in Springfield, he was officially elected and installed as Grand Master of Masons of the State of Missouri.

Brother Scott is a native of Independence, Missouri, born on February 12, 1940 and graduated from Central High School in Kansas City. Don latter attended the Truman Campus of Central State University for his college work.

Grand Master Scott has been married to Anna for over 50 years who often accompanied him on his Masonic travels. He have two children, Bradley and Clarissa.

Don has been active in Freemasonry all of his adult life, being initiated, passed and raised in Independence Lodge No 76 in 1961. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1979 and Treasurer in 1986 and 1987. He served six years on the Independence Temple Board and served as DDGL of the 59th Masonic District.

Brother Scott provided strong leadership to the Scottish Rite, Valley of Kansas City, being Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection in 1990. He was honored with the KCCH in 1987 and was coronated a 33rd Degree member in 1993. He served as Executive Secretary of the Valley of Kansas City from 1995-1998.

Don is very proud of the fact that when his grandson was made a Master Mason in Independence Lodge that made the fifth generation of the family as members of the Lodge.

In 1988, Grand Master Robert Jenkins appointed Don as Senior Grand Marshal and after serving seven months as Acting Grand Master he was elected and installed Grand Master in September of 1996.

Other Masonic memberships include: Independence Chapter No 12m RAM, Independence Council No 49, Cryptic Masons and Palestine Commandery No 17, Knight Templar. He is also a member of Moila Shrine. Don is a member and Past Patron of Independence Chapter No 329 Order of the Eastern Star, the Missouri Lodge of Research serving as Master in 2002, Mary Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, Harry S Truman York Rite College and the Missouri College of Societas Rosicruciana.

Brother Scott was particularly active with the Masonic Home beginning in 1987, when he was appointed to fill an unexpired term. He served two years as Chairman of the Administration Committee. He returned to the Board to fill an unexpired term in 1991 serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee until 1995.

In 1999, Grand Master Steven Toybes awarded Most Worshipful Brother Scott, the Truman Medal. the highest honor a Grand Master of Missouri can bestow on a member.
