BIOGRAPHY

Basey was born in Boone County, Missouri, March 30, 1920, the of Forrest Albert and Marthena Wade Vanlandingham. He attended rural and public schools of Boone County and Columbia, Missouri, and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia.

He engaged successfully in business demonstrated by his association with the Exchange Bank of New Franklin, where he was Chairman of the Board. In 1856 his interests turned to affairs of government and was accordingly elected to the Missouri House of Representatives from Boone County. In 1958 he was re-elected to the Missouri House and was made Speaker Pro Tem in the 70th General Assembly. After serving two terms in the House he decided to run for a seat in the upper body of the Missouri Legislature. It was in 1960, that he was elected Senator of the 19th District. He was named a member of President Kennedy's Advisory Board on Natural Resources. He was re-elected in 1964.

He was a member of Howard Lodge No. 4, New Franklin, initiated May 1, 1941, passed June 19, 1941 and raised November 14, 1941. He served as DDGM in 1951, DDGL in 1953 & 1954. Appointed Grand Pursuivant September 26, 1956, Served on the Home Board 1954-1958 and elected and installed Grand Master in 1965.

He belonged to Boonville Chapter No 60 RAM, serving as High Priest in 1949 and Grand High Priest in 1963. Centralia Council No 34 R&SM serving as Master in 1957 and Olivet Commandery NO 53 KT serving as Commander in 1956, affiliating with St Graal Commandry No 12 KT in 1959.

He belonged to Missouri Priory No 17, KYCH, Kilwinning Council NO 19 Allied Masonic Degrees, DeMolay Legion of Honor, Red Cross of Constantine, Aleppo Grotto and honorary memberships in Moolah and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temples.

Most Worshipful Brother A.B. Vanlandingham died October 26, 1990 after a long illness.
