BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

Archer Johnson, the Sixty-eight Grand Master of Missouri was born in the State of Kentucky on July 9, 1869. When he was eight his family moved to Laclede County, Mo. He lived on the farm until the age of twenty-one. During this time he attended public school and later studied law. In 1890 he came to Springfield and was admitted to the bar in Greene County, Mo. He at once began practicing law and formed a partnership with Thomas B Love. He was elected city attorney in Springfield in 1898 and re-elected in 1890.

Brother Johnson was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Solomon Lodge No 271, Springfield, Mo., November 16, 1894 and served as Master in 1903 and 1904. In 1904 he was appointed Grand Orator of the Grand Lodge. His oration, beautiful in diction, and splendidly delivered may be found in the proceedings of 1905 pp. 117 et seq.

In 1905 he was appointed Grand Sword Bearer and elected Grand Master in 1911.

He provided service to the Masonic Home serving as a member of the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Missouri Lodge of Research.

Grand Master Johnson died on January 20, 1955 in St John's Hospital, Springfield, where he had been a patient for only four days. The Funeral was held January 23, 1955 with Masonic Services, Interment was in the Maple Park Cemetery.
