Dr. Frank Merrick Dies in Massachusetts House

Dr. Frank Merrick passed away at his home in Beverly, Mass., last Monday following an illness of several weeks. He had been in poor health for some time.

Dr. Merrick was born in Steuben, the son of the late Clinton and Abbey Merrick.

After attending schools in this vicinity he attended Syracuse University, graduating in 1887. He then entered the Divinity School of Boston University from which he graduated in 1891. He was pastor of Trinity Congregational Church at Neponset, Mass., for two years; West Roxbury, Mass. Church 15 years; Faith Congregational Church, Springfield, Mass., 6 years. Mr. Merrick received his Degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Boston University in 1901, and Degree of Doctor of Divinity from Kansas City University in 1906.

He was an active Mason and served as associate Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He was prominent in state and national religious organization and in 1921 was made secretary of the Indiana Federation of Churches.

Dr. Merrick spent some time every summer at the old Merrick home here and was often heard with much pleasure in the churches here and in Utica.

He leaves his wife whom he met at Syracuse University and one daughter, Frances, of Beverly, Mass.; one sister, Mrs. Marion J. Griffith, Remsen; six nieces, Mrs. Hugh Patrick and Mrs. George Bowen, Steuben; Miss Frances Griffith, Remsen; Mrs. Charles Smith, Stittville; Mrs. Myron Mather, Syracuse; Mrs. Ira Van Dresar, Western; and three nephew, Roscoe Griffith, Utica; John and Glenn Merrick, Ilion.
