CORNER STONE LAYING, AUGUST 1889

From Liberal Freemason, Vol. XIII, No. 5, August 1889, Page 157:

The corner-stone of the new county court-house in Fall River was laid August 8th, at noon, with the usual Masonic ceremonies. The following lodges took part: Narragansett, King Philip, Mount Hope, of Fall River; Concordia, Fairhaven; Eureka, Star in the East, of New Bedford; King David, of Taunton; Bristol, of North Attleboro; the M. W. Grand Lodge F. and A. M. of Massachusetts, escorted by Godfrey de Bouillon Commandery of Fall River, accompanied by Hooper's Band.

The procession started from the corner of Rock and Franklin Streets, and after a short parade reached the court-house, where County Commissioner Babbitt of Taunton addressed the Acting Grand Master, Sereno D. Nickerson of Boston, and finally requested that the stone be laid. The other officers of the occasion were Dep. Grand Master Andrew C. Stone, Lawrence; Senior Grand Warden Charles Harris, Cambridge; Junior Grand Warden W. H. H. Soule of Boston; Rev. Charles A. Skinner, Grand Chaplain; C. H. Norris, Salem, Senior Grand Deacon; H. H. Hale, Taunton, Junior Grand Deacon; K. A. Bradford, New Bedford, J. H. Upham, Boston, Stuart James, New Bedford, Sword Bearers; John H. Chester, Boston, Tyler. The procession was in charge of Grand Marshal George H. Rhodes of Taunton and his aides. At the conclusion of the ceremonies the Grand Lodge and visiting brethren were ban-netted by the local lodges.
