BIOGRAPHY

From Moore's Freemason's Monthly, Vol. XV, No. 6, April, 1856, Page 164:

Col. Abraham Savage, who is named as Junior Grand Warden, was probably initiated in the "First Lodge in Boston." We believe he was originally a merchant, but being of a military turn of mind, he accepted a commission as Colonel in the Provincial army, and on the 13th of April, 1759, was authorized by Grand Master Tomlinson, (successor of M. W. Henry Price,) "to congregate all Free and Accepted Masons in the expedition intended against Canada, at Lake George, or elsewhere, into one or more Lodges, as he shall think fit, and appoint their officers," &c. He was Master of St. John's Lodge in 1765, and again 1767, in which year he was elected Grand Secretary, and in 1771, Junior Grand Warden, and in 1774, Senior Grand Warden. In January, 1775, he was appointed Deputy Grand Master, by M. W. Henry Price, who had resumed the office of Grand Master, in consequence of the death of M. W. Jeremy Gridley. On the 19th of April following, open hostilities commenced between the mother country and the colonies, and the regular meetings of the Grand Lodge were suspended. What part Brother Savage took in the stirring events of the day, we are not informed.

Note that Moore's identification of Tomlinson as Grand Master is in error; Grand Master Gridley authorized him for this task.
