BIOGRAPHY

Samuel Everett Wilkins, Jr., of What Cheer Lodge No. 21, F.& A. M. of Providence, was elected and installed the One Hundred and Fifteenth Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at the One Hundred and Seventy-ninth Annual Communication held at Freemasons Hall, Providence Rhode Island on May 18, 1970.

Most Worshipful Brother Wilkins was born in Providence, Rhode Island, September 29, 1903. He attended Providence public schools, Brown University (A.B. 1924) and Harvard Law School (L.L.B. 1928). He was Assistant in English at Brown University (1924-25).

Brother Wilkins was assistant attorney in Law Department of the United Electric Railways, June 1928 to March 1929. Associate in the law firm of Hinckley, Allen, Tillinghast and Wheeler, March 1929 to February 1937; partner in that firm February 1937 to February 1951. He was Vice-President, Director, and General Counsel for FRAM Corporation from February 1951 to February 1961 and engaged in general practice of law since that time. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar; admitted to practice in Federal District Court for Rhode Island; Federal Court of Appeal in 1st and 5th Districts and in the United States Supreme Court.

Most Worshipful Brother Wilkins was raised in What Cheer Lodge No. 21, May 1936; Master of that Lodge, 1944-45; District Deputy 1960-1967; Junior Grand Warden 1967-68; Grand Senior Warden 1968-1969; Deputy Grand Master 1969-1970; Grand Master, 1970-1971. He is a member of the Ancient Accepted Order of Scottish Rites.

Brother Wilkins has served in the following civic and public capacities; City Solicitor for City of Cranston; Town Solicitor for Town of North Kingstown; President, University Club; President, The Players; President University Glee Club; President, Board of Trustees of Providence Country Day School. Trustee, William H. Hall Library; Director, RI Mental Health Association; Director, Rl Historical Society; Member, RI Country Club, Wannamoisett Country Club and Providence Art Club. Member, Providence Institution for Savings, Providence Lying­In Hospital, and Roger Williams Hospital Corporations.
