BIOGRAPHY

Julio A. Paniccia, of Doric Lodge No. 38, A. F. & A. M. of Cranston, Rhode Island was elected and installed the One Hundred Thirtieth Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at the One Hundred and Ninety Fourth Annual Communication held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Cranston, Rhode Island.

Most Worshipful Brother Paniccia was born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 31, 1925, the son of Gabriel and Lillian (Marcello) Paniccia. He was educated in the Providence Public Schools, graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in June, 1943. One week after graduating from high school he entered the U.S. Navy serving continuously for 33 months overseas. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1946, he entered Bryant College.

In 1950 he joined the family business of Dry Cleaning and Laundering, retiring as President in 1985 of Atlantic Cleaners, Inc.

On August 21, 1954, he married the former Norma S. James of Providence, RI.

Most Worshipful Brother Paniccia's Masonic record began on March 22, 1961, when he was initiated an E. A. He was raised in Doric Lodge No. 38, A. F. & A. M. in May, 1961 and was elected as Worshipful Master on October 20, 1971. For many years he served on the Finance Committee of Doric Lodge and also served as an advisor to Doric Chapter, Order of DeMolay.

He was appointed a District Deputy Grand Master to the Seventh District by Most Worshipful Malcolm C. Bromberg in 1975 and served in each of the seven Masonic Districts. He was elected Junior Grand Warden in 1982, Senior Grand Warden in 1983, Deputy Grand Master in 1984. He was appointed Grand Representative to the Grand Lodge of Quebec in 1978 and served as representative until 1985.

M. W. Brother Paniccia holds life membership in the four bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence, and is a Past Thrice Potent Master of Solomon's Lodge of Perfection.

In September, 1985 he was nominated to receive the Honorary Thirty-Third Degree by the Supreme Council of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and is scheduled to be coronated in September, 1986 at Cincinatti, Ohio.

A former member of Thomas Smith Webb Commandery No. 51, Knight Templar, which later merged with St. John's Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar, he holds life membership in St. John's Commandery and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc.

M. W. Brother Paniccia also holds life membership in Harmony Chapter No. 15, R. A. M.; Doric Council No. 7, R. & S. M.; is a Noble of Palestine Temple, A. A.O. N. M. S. and is a member and Past President of the Knights of Mecca, a unit of Palestine Temple. He is a Knight Companion of The Red Cross of Constantine, Plantation Conclave, Providence, RI; a member of The Masonic Veterans Association of RI; holds membership of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076, the premier Lodge of Masonic Research, London, England; and a charter member of William Pitt Tavern Lodge No. 1789, Portsmouth, New Hampshsire.

He holds honorary membership in Nathanael Greene Lodge No. 45, Warwick Lodge No. 16 and is an honorary member of the Palestine Temple Clowns, A. A. O. N. M. S. M. W. Brother Paniccia is a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and Swords of Bunker Hill, Gaspee Order 99.

On June 8, 1985, he was honored by Rhode Island State Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles, by receiving "The Home and Family Life Award" 1985 Recipient. In February, 1986 he was appointed a Colonel in the Bristol Train of Artillery, Company C, Rhode Island Militia.

As a youth he was active in Boy Scouting reaching the level of Assistant Scout Master.

An aviation enthusiast since childhood days, he was engaged in all phases of model aircraft building. In later years he received an appointment as Contest Director of The Academy of Model Aeronautics.

Most Worshipful Brother Paniccia has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol, United States Air Force Aux. for the past 36 years. He is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and when time allows you will find him at his favorite pastime - flying.
