BIOGRAPHY

Charles Montrose Menge of Harmony Lodge No. 9, F. & A. M. of Pawtuxet was elected and installed the One Hundred and Twenty-Fifth Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at the One Hundred and Eighty-ninth Annual Communication held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, Cranston, Rhode Island on May 19, 1980.

Most Worshipful Brother Menge was born in New London, Connecticut on December 21, 1927 the son of Charles and Edith (Forbes) Menge.

He was educated in the Stonington Public Schools and graduated from Stonington High in 1945. He honorably served with the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from Bryant College with the class of 1951.

The Most Worshipful was associated with the Foxon Packaging Corporation of Providence for a period of twenty five years and was Director of Sales at the lime he left the company in 1977. In April of 1977 he became Regional Sales Director for Packaging Consultants of Memphis, Tennessee, leaving the company to go to work for Benny's Incorporated of Esmond, Rhode Island in September, 1978.

On July 13, 1951 he married Ruth (Dusty) Rhoades of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. They have three daughters. Kim Forbes who resides in Anaheim, California, Robin Rhoades who resides in Visalia, California and Jan Bowers who lives at home.

Both the Grand Master and his wife belong to Greenville Baptist Church.

Most Worshipful Brother Menge's Masonic Record began on February 18, 1958 when he was initiated an E. A. He was raised in Harmony Lodge No. 9, Pawtuxet, Rhode Island on April 29, 1958. He was elected its Worshipful Master in November of 1967. He was appointed an Assistant Grand Lecturer in 1970 and District Deputy Grand Master of the Sixth Masonic District in May 1972 by the Most Worshipful George E. Kettleband. He was appointed to similar positions in the other districts in the following years. On May 16, 1977 he was elected and installed as Right Worshipful Junior Grand Warden, Right Worshipful Senior Grand Warden on May 15, 1978 and Deputy Grand Master on May 21, 1979.

He holds membership in the four bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rile, Valley of Providence and is presently Captain of the Guard in the Rhode Island Consistory. He is a member of Harmony Chapter, Doric Council and Saint John's Commandery No. 1. The Grand Master is a Noble of Palestine Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. holding membership in the Knights of Mecca Unit and also holds membership in the Masonic Veterans Association as well as the Sword of Bunker Hill.
