BIOGRAPHY

Kenneth Craik, of Mount Vernon Lodge, No. 4, Providence, R. I., was elected and installed the ninety-eighth Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at the One Hundred and Sixty-second Annual Communication held in Providence on Monday, May 18, 1953, A. L. 5953, A. D. 1953.

M. W. Brother Craik was horn in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on September 8, 1904, the youngest son of Henry and Ellen (Bowen) Craik. There were five children in the family, three boys and two girls. His father was born in Berwick, Scotland, and his mother in Tenby, Wales.

He obtained his early education in the public schools of Pawtucket, graduating from Pawtucket High School. He then entered the L. L. Cooke Engineering School, Chicago, Illinois, graduating in 1921.

Following his graduation from the L. L. Cooke Engineering School, he w;is employed by several organizations in the engineering field. In 1932 he became associated with the Waite Thresher Company, of Providence, and is now its President and Treasurer.

In 1951 he became an officer of the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Company as its Buildings Manager.

On July 17, 1926 he was married to Ethel Marion Johnson, of Providence, and the union has been blessed with a son, Richard Herbert Craik. Mrs. Craik passed away in 1951.

He is now married to Edna Josephine Jones, of Providence.

Brother Craik is a member of the Central Baptist Church, of Providence.

He is at present Vice-President of the Freemasons Hall Company, Providence; and Vice-President of the Building Owners and Managers Association, Providence.

M. W. Brother Craik's Masonic record began on December 3, 1930 when he was initiated in Mount Vernon Lodge, No. 4, of Providence, and on February 4, 1937 he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. He was elected Worshipful Master of his lodge on February 22, 1945.

He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the Seventh District on May 20, 1940 by M. W. Brother Albert W. Claflin, and the following years was appointed to a similar position in other districts. On May 15, 1950 he was elected R. W. Junior Grand Warden; R. W. Senior Grand Warden on May 21, 1951; and R. W. Deputy Grand Master on May 19, 1952.

He holds membership in the four bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Providence, and is at present the Orator of the Rose Croix Chapter.

He is a member of Providence Chapter, No. 1, R. A. M.; Providence Council, No. 1, R. & S. M.; St. Johns Commandery, No. 1, K. T.; Palestine Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S.; Moslem Grotto, and Universal Craftsmen Council of Engineers.

He was made a Tall Cedar at sight in Massasoit Forest, No. 112, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, on September 26, 1954.
