REGULAR SESSIONS

ANNUAL SESSION, 09/09/1856

Meeting held at Boston (ChI-701):

Grand Chapter opened.

A petition for dispensation for Orient Chapter in Hyannis was granted.

It was reported that the Grand Chapter would attend the dedication of the statue of Franklin on 09/17/1856.

Daniel Harwood, Grand High Priest, "was present at this meeting during a short time, but owing to ill health, declined occupying the chair. After a few appropriate remarks, he announced his intention of not being a candidate for re-election, and withdrew."

The Grand Chapter adjourned to 10/14/1856.

The Grand High Priest gave "some appropriate remarks, in which he gave a short and condensed account of the various matters which had been acted upon by the Grand Body during the past year."

The meeting elected the officers for the Grand Royal Arch Chapter for the ensuing year, with R. E. Daniel Harwood re-elected Grand High Priest (despite his announcement of declining re-election on Page ChI-703, above); other officers elected and appointed as noted on Pages ChI-706 and ChI-710.

STATED MEETING, 12/09/1856

Held at Mason's Hall, Boston (ChI-708):

Grand Chapter opened.

A petition for the Chapter of the Shekinah in Chelsea was granted a charter.

A petition for Pentucket Chapter in Haverhill was granted a dispensation.

The Grand Secretary was directed to correspond with Adoniram Chapter and Northampton Chapter regarding dues and returns.

A ruling was given regarding the Order of High Priesthood.

A petition for a chapter in Valparaiso, Chile was referred to committee.

Grand Chapter opened.

The Grand Chapter voted to join with the Grand Lodge at the inauguration of the statue of Joseph Warren on 06/17/1857.

The Grand Chapter considered striking the 5th Article of the General Regulations; referred to committee.
