ANNUAL SESSION, 09/12/1854

Meeting held at Boston (Ch1-651):

Grand Chapter opened.

Committee reports:

  • On the "expediency of appointing an agent to visit the Chapters under this jurisdiction": granted further time
  • On the drafting of "suitable resolutions on the death of M. E. Daniel Gibbens: granted further time.
  • On restoring the 5th Article of the Grand Constitutions: a report was made, and was rejected.

The petition for a chapter in Pittsfield was rejected because the papers were found "informal".

The Companion directed to visit Northampton Chapter reported that he had received $51 "and recommended that this amount be received in full from Northampton Chapter."

Finance report.

  • An extensive account of the formation of the Grand Chapter, and all of the subordinate chapters, up to 1854, begins on Page Ch1-656.

The meeting elected the officers for the Grand Royal Arch Chapter for the ensuing year, with R. E. Stephen Lovell re-elected Grand High Priest; other officers elected and appointed as noted on Pages ChI-665 and ChI-670.

Held at Mason's Hall, Boston (ChI-656):

A memorial for M. E. Daniel Gibbens was presented.

A petition from King Cyrus Chapter for restoration of its charter was accepted.

A petition for St. John's Chapter in East Boston was granted a dispensation.

A petition from Concord Chapter for restoration of its charter was accepted.

A petition for Evening Star Chapter in Pittsfield was granted a dispensation.

Companion John McClellan was elected to replace Horace Chenery as Grand Scribe.

Grand Chapter opened.

A petition from Mount Lebanon Chapter for restoration of its charter (relocating to Milford) was accepted. A note on the endorsement of the charter indicating its relocation appears on Page ChI-675.

STATED MEETING, 06/12/1855

Held at Mason's Hall, Boston (ChI-675):

Grand Chapter opened.

  • The committee on regalia reported.
  • The Grand High Priest reported that he had visited Mount Lebanon Chapter and "being satisfied that {their proceedings} were correct, he had ordered their Charter to be restored, and assisted in the reorganization of the Chapter."
  • The Grand Chapter agreed to attend a celebration of St. John's Day in Milford.
