"To the Most Worshipful Grand Master, Wardens, and Members of Grand Lodge:

"For the record I submit the following report on a situation which it is believed is without precedent in the entire history of this Grand Lodge.

"From early on June 1 until late on June 5, by virtue of Section 217 of the Grand Constitutions, as the Senior Past Grand Master, I was called upon to serve as Acting Grand Master because of the absence from the jurisdiction of the Grand Master, the Deputy Grand Master and the Senior and Junior Grand Wardens.

"The situation was also unique in that during my brief term of office the number of our subordinate lodges increased by one new lodge.

"My first official action was to appoint Wor. Chester R. Thomas as Acting Grand Marshal, a position he had previously filled in 1930 when R.W. Louis A. Jones, Deputy Grand Master, was Acting Grand Master.

"My sole official function was to keep a previous commitment to take part in the annual Past Masters' Meeting at Belmont Lodge. As Wor. Bro. Thomas was unavoidably absent, R.W. Herbert Jaynes, Past Senior Grand Warden, officiated as Acting Grand Marshal.

"The hours which I spent at the Temple were pleasantly reminiscent but were scarcely of world shaking importance.

"Respectfully submitted, June 14, 1967 - JOSEPH EARL PERRY Acting Grand Master"

  • 1967-278: Remarks by Rt. Wor. Howard W. Osborn, Past District Grand Master of the Canal Zone, who "explained briefly the present status of conditions in the Canal Zone and outlined the possible adjustments that might be made in the relations between our country and the Republic of Panama."

The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the oldest Masonic Grand Lodge in the Western Hemisphere, assembled in a regular quarterly commuication this fourteenth day of June, 1967, unanimously extends its fraternal greetings and congratulations to the United Grand Lodge of England, the oldest Grand Lodge of Masons in the world, and thus the mother of all duly constituted Freemasonry, on the observance of its two hundred and fiftieth birthday.

For two hundred and thirty-four of the last two hundred and fifty years the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, first as a Provincial Grand Lodge owing allegiance to the Grand Lodge of England and later as an independent and Sovereign Grand Lodge, has respected, admired and sought to emulate the service to mankind so brilliantly rendered by the United Grand Lodge of England, and now joins with it in rededicating both Grand Lodges to further service in the beckoning and challenging years ahead.
