"Right Worshipful Kenneth Gerald Swindell was born in Everett, Massachusetts on April 13, 1903, the son of Obediah Brandt and Addie Jerauld Swindell.
"He was educated in the Everett Public Schools, Northeastern Polytech and Northeastern University School of Business Administration from which he received a B.B.A. Degree and was a member of the Sigma Epsilon Rho Honor Society.
"On June 28, 1936 he was married to Clara C. Huestis, who survives him. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Jackson and Mrs. Jean Webber, both of Melrose, Massachusetts, one son, William H. Swindell of Framingham, Massachusetts; and two brothers, Lester Swindell o{ Greensboro, North Carolina and Donald Swindell of Everett, Massachusetts.
"He was first employed as a technician with the General Radio Co., and later by the Electrical Laboratories as a telephone craftsman and finally manager prior to joining the New England Telephone Company as administrator o{ Direct Distance Dialing where he was employed for nearly 42 years.
"He was raised in Palestine Lodge, Everett, Massachusetts on May 12, 1927 and served as its Worshipful Master in 1939-1940. He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the Melrose 7th Masonic District for the years 1959-1960. He was elected and served as Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts for the year 1965. Right Worshipful Brother Swindell served as Master of the 35th Lodge of Instruction in 1945-1946. He received the Henry Price Medal in 1965.
"Brother Swindell was exalted in Bethsaida Royal Arch Chapter on May 27, 1947 and served as Excellent High Priest in 1955-1956. He was knighted in Hugh de Payens Commandery in Melrose on January 12, 1949 and served as Eminent Commander in 1973-1974. He was also holder of the York Cross of Honor. He was a member of Boston Lafayette Lodge of Perfection, Giles F. Yates Council, Princes of Jerusalem, Mt. Olivet Chapter of Rose Croix and Massachusetts Consistory in the Valley of Boston. He was a member of Aleppo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. and served at one time as Temple Guard.
"Right Worshipful Brother Swindell had contributed more than 4000 hours to the.Burns Institute and its patients. Although he had a very strong Masonic allegiance, he still found time to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard as Ensign in the Reserve. He was Park Commissioner for the City of Melrose for over 20 years, and also served as Secretary of the Commissioner for 15 years. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Masonic Association Ior 14 years, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mona Bina Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and served his Chapter as Worthy patron {or three years. He was Deacon of the Green Street Baptist Church o{ Melrose and Chairman of its Board of Trustees. He was active in fund raising drives for the United Fund, Red Cross, Y.M.C.A., Salvation Arrny and special fund raising for his church.
"After his retirement on January 1, 1968 he devoted many hours to the Masonic Home in Charlton repairing and updating the internal telephone system.
"He was raised to the Celestial Lodge above on February 20, 1975. His devotion to his Lodge, to Grand Lodge, to Masonry in all its branches and his deeds of Charity and pure beneficence have left the mark of a true and dedicated Mason. Masonic Memorial services were held at the Henderson Funeral Home in Everett on Sunday, February 23, 197S. Funeral Services were held on Monday, February 24, 1975.
