Brother Ballard was born in Salem, Massachusetts, on May 13, 1856, and died at his home in Malden on August 19, 1942.
He was educated in the schools of Malden and then entered the employ of the Boston Rubber Shoe Company of that city, being vice-president and treasurer at the time of the dissolution of that Company. He then became associated with the Wellman Company oi Medford and was president and treasurer at the time of his retirement in 1940.
He was raised in Converse Lodge of Malden on June 15, 1893, and served as Master in 1901 and 1902. On November 30, 1912, he affiliated with The Lodge of Stirling and was elected an Honorary Member during that year.
In Grand Lodge, he served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Seventh District in 1908, by appointment of Most Worshipful John Albert Blake. In 1909, 1910 and 1911 he served as Grand Marshal, by appointment of Most Worshipful Dana J. Flanders. In 1912 he was Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge by election.
He was a member of Tabernacle Chapter, R.A.M., of Melrose Council, R. & S. M., a Past Commander of Beauseant Commandery, K.T., Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Boston Lafayette Lodge of Perfection, and a member of all the other Scottish Rite Bodies in Boston.
