GEOFFREY L. PIPPETTE 1899-1962

MEMORIAL

From Proceedings, Page 1962-154:

Geoffrey Lionel Pippette, Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, died on July 19, 1962, at the Symmes Hospital in Arlington, Massachusetts, following a brief illness.

He was born June 7, 1899, at Teddington, England, where he lived until he was five years old. In 1904, following the death of his father, Dr. Walter Pippette, he moved with his mother to Boston, Massachusetts, where they lived for a short time before moving to Cambridge. Brother Pippette attended Cambridge public schools and was graduated from Rindge Technical High School. In 1921 he married Mary Warren Holmes of Somerville and eventually moved to Lexington.

Brother Pippette was associated with the Carter's Ink Company of Cambridge where he started in April 1916 as an office boy. Through diligence and ability, he attained the position of Executive Manager of Advertising and Sales Promotion, a position he held at the time of his death. He was an active member of the American Marketing Association and President of the New England Chapter in 1940. He was also a member of the Advertising Club of Boston.

His Masonic record is included in the Necrology.

During his term as District Deputy Grand Master, two new Lodges were formed in the Somerville Sixth District, and Right Worshipful Brother Pippette assisted measurably in the beginning of Simonds Lodge in Burlington and Frank W. Thompson Lodge in Bedford. He became a charter member of both Lodges and was the first Worshipful Master of Frank W. Thompson Lodge. In order that the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts could benefit by the thorough research which he made during the formation of these particular Lodges, Right Worshipful Brother Pippette compiled a Manual of Instruction to assist those who may be interested. The information is now on file with the Grand Secretary. In December 1961 he was elected to the office of Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge and received the Henry Price Medal in 1962.

A member of the Committee on Masonic Education since 1950, he was extremely interested in the work of the Education Department of Grand Lodge and traveled over the entire state lecturing on the second degree at various Lodges of Instruction. Several times he was chosen to exemplify this lecture to instructors on a statewide basis. He was Zone Committeeman for the 13th Lodge of Instruction, and in addition, he served the Grand Lodge as a member of the Committee on Advisory Finance.

He was an active member in many collateral Masonic bodies in both the Scottish and York Rite. He was the presiding Eminent Commander of St. Bernard's Commandery in Boston and held an office in Mount Olivet Chapter of Rose Croix. He was also a member and past Patron of the Lexington Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

A Masonic funeral was held at a Lexington funeral home, and burial was at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, Massachusetts.

He was a sincere and dedicated Mason, ever ready to do whatever was asked of him. He was endowed with a quick wit and a boundless capacity for humor. He knew the true meaning of the word "humility" and counted among his host of friends people from all walks of life. He was a devoted husband and an upstanding citizen. A man like Right Worshipful Geoffrey L. Pippette is not easily replaced, and we shall all miss him.
