"Right Worshipful Calvin Arthur Burger was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 29, 1900, the son of Nicholas Bauer and Edith Maude (MacQueen) Burger. Educated in the Lowell schools, he was a life long resident of Lowell. At his passing, he was First Assistant Clerk of the Courts of Middlesex County and served the county and the court for more than sixty years.

"Brother Burger was raised in Kilwinning Lodge in Lowell on November 20, 1925 and served the Lodge as Master in 1940 and 1941. In 1943, he was appointed Junior Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge and in 1945 and 1946 he served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Lowell Twelfth Masonic District. In 1955, he was appointed Grand Representative from the Grand Lodge of Arizona near the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. Brother Burger was elected in 1970 as Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge. He received the Veteran's Medal from the Grand Lodge in 1975.

"Brother Burger was an active member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies. He received the degrees in l,owell Lodge of Perfection, Lowell Council Princes of Jerusalem and Mount Calvary Chapter of Rose Croix, of which he served as Most Wise Master from 1953 to 1956. A member of Massachusetts Consistory in which he had served as Orator and took active roles in the degrees up to his passing. On September 28, 1955, he was created a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33°, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, A.A.S.R. In the York Rite, he was a member of Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter, which he served as High Priest, and Ahesuerus Council and Pilgrim Commandery No.9 of Lowell. Brother Burger had served as Advisor and was closely associated with the Lowell Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls and the Lowell Chapter of DeMolay.

"He was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church of Lowell where he served as usher for more than fi{ty years and had formerly been clerk and a member of the Vestry of that Church. Brother Burger was a Corporator of the Lowell General Hospital and of the Central Savings Bank of Lowell. He was a Trustee of the Lowell Masonic Association of which he was a past president.

"Brother Burger passed to the Celestial Lodge Above on November 24, 1978 at Lowell. Memorial service was held at St. Anne's Episcopal Church of Lowell on Monday, November 27, which was largely attended by his many friends, associates of the Court, and his Masonic Brethren. Interment took place in Edson Cemetery, Lowell. He is survived by his wife, Edith A. (Williams) Burger.
