Brother Richardson was born December 20, 1919 in Fall River, Massachusetts and died on April 4, 2003 at Hanover, Massachusetts. His passing is a great loss to Freemasonry, his family and his community.

He was the son of William C. and Mildred (Dumas) Richardson. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1938 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II. Following his discharge, he spent several years as an insurance underwriter, eventually establishing the Richardson Insurance Agency in Hanover, Massachusetts and from which he retired in 1988.

He served as president of the South Scituate Savings Bank in Norwell and as senior vice president of Quincy Savings Bank. He was associated with the Hanover Visiting Nurse Association, the South Shore Hospital and the Hanover Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Hanover and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for several years. He was a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 1957. He was past president of Tri-Town Rotary and served on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Massachusetts Lung Association. He also served as a Cub Master and Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. Brother Richardson served as President of the Hanover Historical Society and as an overseer of the Stetson House – the historical house of Hanover.

Brother Richardson was raised in Phoenix Lodge, Hanover, Massachusetts in June of 1953 and was its Worshipful Master in 1960. He is a Past Master of the 18th Lodge of Instruction, a long time member of the Grand Lodge Service Committee and a Past President of the Worshipful Masters Association of Southeastern Massachusetts. In 1972, Most Worshipful Donald W. Vose appointed Brother Richardson District Deputy Grand Master of the Plymouth 27th Masonic District after which he joined the Past District Deputy Grand Masters Association and served as its President.

Brother Richardson was elected Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts for the year 1976 and was appointed Chairman of the Financial Advisory Committee in 1977. In 1978, the Grand Lodge of Colorado appointed Brother Richardson as its Representative near the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts and he served in that capacity until 1984 when he was appointed Representative of the Grand Lodge of Ireland. He also served Grand Lodge as a Grand Lecturer for three years. In December of 1983, Brother Richardson was elected Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts, and served from 1984 through 1986.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Boston, where he served Massachusetts Consistory as Second Lieutenant Commander and as an Aide to the Commander in Chief. He received the 33° in Detroit, Michigan in 1985. He was a member of Pilgrim Royal Arch Chapter, Abington Council, Royal and Select Master Masons of Massachusetts, Aleppo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., was Past Commander of Saint Bernard Commandery # 12 of Boston, and was affiliated with a number of other Masonic organizations including Societas Rosicruciana In Civitatibus Foederatis, Red Cross of Constantine, York Rite College, National Sojourners, Taleb Grotto, The Royal Order of Scotland, Order of the Eastern Star and an Honorary member of DeMolay Legion of Honor.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Carolyn (Hey), their four children, Sarah E. Richardson of Hanover, Judith G. Webb of Wells, Maine, Stephen T. Richardson of Hanover and Nancy E. Richardson of South Portland, Maine; a sister, Helen L. Thompson of Cape Porpoise, Maine; two brothers, Robert B. Richardson of Tampa, Florida, and Howard J. Richardson of West Gloucester, and five grandchildren. He was a brother of the late George C. Richardson.

A Masonic service was held on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home in Rockland. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 12, 2003 in the First Congregational Church in Hanover Center.
