Most Worshipful Brother John W. Luke entered the Grand Lodge at the Annual Communication in 1857, representing Polar Star Lodge No. 79. He at once became known as an active and zealous worker.
He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master for the Twenty-fourth District, comprising St. Louis City, County, and Franklin County. The position was retained for many years, during which he was a regular attendant upon all sessions of the Grand Lodge. In 1872 he was elected Senior Grand Warden, the following year Deputy Grand Master, and in 1874 he was chosen Most Worshipful Grand Master, serving one year. Was succeeded by Brother James K. Cadle.
